Microsoft unveiled Microsoft Tag for Google Android, which allows users to scan a customized tag with their smartphone's camera module and receive multimedia and other content on their screen. Although Microsoft is contesting fiercely with Google, Apple and other companies in the smartphone space, it evidently recognizes the opportunities to spread its products to as many users as possible by creating applications for its rivals' mobile app storefronts. Google has also introduced a barcode-scanning system that leverages its own software.
Google announced a new feature called Gesture Search, which allows users to search through files on their Google Android smartphones by tracing a letter like "A" or "H" on their screen. The application, which theoretically learns from the users search history to improve overall search quality, is available for devices running Android 2.0 or higher, which limits the number of Android-equipped smartphones that have access to it. Google has been expanding the number of applications available for its smartphone operating system in a bid to increase its market share in the mobile space.
RightNow Technologies on March 4 introduced its "Cloud Service Agreement," which it claims will give clients far greater flexibility in negotiating contracts for its Software-as-a-Service customer experience applications. RightNow CEO Greg Gianforte contends the Cloud Service Agreement it will make it easier and less expensive for prospective customers to start using RightNow's Web-based applications compared to the terms offered by its competitors, such as Salesforce.com, Microsoft and Oracle.
