Integrates Cisco UCS into Savvis' private clouds platform

The Japanese systems maker enters the cloud-building market relatively late. Most of the larger IT hardware and software companies already have stakes in the ground, and there are a large number of startups already at the party.
Savvis and Cisco Systems are partnering on Savvis' Symphony private cloud platform for enterprises. Savvis will integrate Cisco's all-in-on UCSwhich houses server, networking, storage and management software in a single solutioninto its platform, which was formerly code-named Project Spirit. Savvis also is using Cisco's Unified Delivery Service for the project.
The recession drove much of the tech news this year, but cloud computing, virtualization and storage were among the bright spots.
