Zeus Variant Targets Cloud-Based Payroll System

A newly released variant of the Zeus malware has been packaged in a botnet kit that   attackers target a cloud-based payroll service provider. Trusteer announced Tuesday that the malware is specifically designed to affect Ceridian users. The Canadian company provides payroll and human resources services. When an infected user accesses the Ceridian system, the malware reportedly is able to capture a screenshot containing their image-based authentication information as well as their user ID, password, and other information that would let attackers access the account. Security experts note that payroll services firms are particularly at risk as they typically have authentication that lags behind other financial services providers such as online banking.
